First the biggest news of all. Kelly & I became grandparents in April. Nikolas Jon Robert Hopkins was born April /09 in Vancouver to our son Jesse and his beautiful wife Marishia. We couldn't be more proud.
Kelly & I travelled to Calgary in June to play at Mike McLeods "Backyard Swing Fest". There was a great lineup of talent, we had lots of fun and enjoyed Mike & Jo's famous hospitality once again. Mike has a really cool online store. He sells guitars, basses, banjos & mandolins, all high end stuff. Take a look at www.acousticguitar.net. Folk music is definitely alive and well in Calgary!
Silvercreek played all around the Okanagan this summer with several gigs in Kamloops and Kelowna including appearances at The Squilax Music Festival and The Minstrel Cafe in Kelowna. Jim has been playing mandolin lots and can hardly wait for his SOHN mandolin. David is working on a new guitar for me as well and I know it'll be as much of a monster as the last one. His waiting list is growing as his name is getting well known. David builds new guitars, mandolins, banjos and resophonic guitars one at a time by hand to the specs of the best vintage instruments of the past. His creations are awesome. If you're thinking of a new instrument check him out at www.mandolinmaker.com, Tell him Blu sent you.
Sorrento Bluegrass workshops were as much fun as you can legally have. It was nice to see old friends and meet a slew of new ones. Two weeks of "Bluegrass Immersion" always leaves me both exhausted and energized for the winter. If you want to impprove your playing , songwriting or singing skills you can't do much better than a session or two with some of the best acoustic musicians on the planet. You can find out more at www.musicworkshops.ca.
We're looking forward to a couple of recording projects we have coming in to the studio this fall and it's almost time to start thinking about a new release for next summer. We've got some great new tunes for you that we want to get recorded.
Got to go. Getting the wood cut, chimneys cleaned and humidifiers for the instruments ready for the winter. Drop us a line anytime, we love to hear from you.
